A civil services aspirant used to hand over her house keys to the owner’s son whenever she went out of town, leading to a shocking revelation.
A 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly installing hidden cameras in the bedroom and bathroom of his female tenant’s apartment in East Delhi Woman Finds Hidden Cameras Shakarpur area, police reported on Tuesday.
The victim, a civil service aspirant, had been living alone for several months and would regularly leave her house keys with her landlord’s son, Karan, whenever she traveled out of town.
The issue came to light when the woman noticed suspicious activity on her WhatsApp account. According to DCP (East) Apoorva Gupta, the woman was advised to check her linked devices. She discovered that her WhatsApp had been logged into an unfamiliar laptop, prompting her to log out immediately.
Growing more suspicious, she searched her apartment for hidden surveillance devices and found a spy camera concealed in the bathroom’s bulb holder. She immediately called the police, who conducted a thorough search and discovered another hidden camera in the bulb holder of her bedroom.
The victim informed the police that she would routinely hand over her keys to Karan, who lived on another floor of the same building, whenever she went out of town.
During interrogation, Karan confessed to installing the cameras three months earlier when the tenant had entrusted him with her keys while visiting her hometown in Uttar Pradesh. He admitted to purchasing the cameras, which were easily available in local electronics markets, and strategically placing them in the bedroom and bathroom.

Since the cameras stored footage on memory cards rather than transmitting online, Karan frequently asked the woman for her keys under the guise of needing to fix electrical issues. His real intent was to retrieve the footage stored on the cameras.
Further investigation led to the recovery of an additional spy camera, along with two laptops used to store the illicit videos.
A case was filed under Section 77 (voyeurism) of the BNS, and Karan was arrested. Police also revealed that Karan, a graduate preparing for competitive exams, had no prior criminal record and was differently abled
